I bought this at Whole Foods just to try. Loved the baked chicken I poured it over so much that I had to try to find it during quarantine! I was so excited to find I could order it online. It’s also wonderful over baked fish. I thought today while eating leftovers, I love this woman! (The mother of the company’s owner was the originator of the recipes as I understand it.)
If you can’t or don’t want to venture out yet to your favorite local Indian restaurant, this will make your own cooking come close! Delicious.
Ordering again. Was gone in two days!
Similar to the previous reviewer, I picked up a jar of the madras cooking sauce at the food show in Chicago two years ago. I was trying to use up things in my pantry and decided to crack open the jar and saute it with onions before tossing it over some roasted sweet potatoes. It was amazing! I don't know why I didn't use this sauce ages ago. It was so easy and delicious. I think I could honestly pour it over anything. Thank you, spicemode, I'm always going to have a jar in my pantry ready to go!
I picked up the Madras sauce at a food show in the spring in Chicago, IL. I found the owner of the company to be so incredibly kind and charming. He told me this recipe was an old family recipe, handed down for generations. The jars have just been sitting in my pantry until the other night when I was racking my brains on what I could possibly do to liven up a boring pack of chicken breasts. So I opened both jars into my crock pot, added a little water and the chicken breast and let it slowly simmer in the fragrant sauce. When the chicken was done, I shredded the chicken breasts and added it back to the pot with a bag of frozen baby peas. This was served alongside jasmine rice with a healthy dollop of plain Greek yogurt. I have to be honest-even though it smelled amazing, as it was a jarred sauce I didn't have super high expectations. I am accustomed to making all my sauces from scratch, and so I can be kind of a sauce snob. So I when I put that first bite in my mouth and experienced the most amazing and perfect explosion of flavors, I was absolutely shocked!! This sauce is SO delicious-I never want to stop eating it-ever!! My picky children and husband also loved it, and we found ourselves fighting for the leftovers the next day!!! I am about to put in an order for more of this sauce-much, much more!!! It will forever be a staple in my pantry!!
